Beautiful Skin Principles

My Skin Type

WHAT IS MY SKIN TYPE?

Determining your personal skin type is essential for proper skin care usage. Review the information below to determine your skin type and which Bello Essentials Skin Care Regimen will help you achieve Healthy, Beautiful Skin.

NORMAL SKIN is vibrant, balanced skin. Normal Skin is healthy skin. It produces the correct amount of oil that oil is utilized efficiently within the skin’s layers keeping it healthy and blemish-free. Skin tone is clear and the pores are normal in size. Skin is firm, supple and tends to be free of lines and wrinkles. (See Normal Skin)

DRY SKIN is deficient and is no longer producing enough oil. It looks tired and dull; sometimes looking and acting older than it should. The skin tends to look flaky with fine lines around the eyes, mouth and nose. When dehydrated, it can also look parched. Unless it is diligently cared for, the skin can wrinkle prematurely. Bello Skin Care Essentials will provide dry skin with the supplementation it needs to re-activate and once again become healthy, normal skin. (See Dry Skin)

OILY SKIN has over-stimulated sebaceous glands that produce too much oil. This condition often becomes more severe as the skin becomes over-cleansed, thus stimulating oil glands to deposit extra waxes to protect the skin’s surface from future harsh detergents and alcohols. Over-cleansing transmits the wrong message to the glands, which continue making more oil and making the skin have a shiny appearance. Pores are enlarged and visible, particularly in the T-zone. Generally there are blemishes around the nose and chin, between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Bello Skin Care Essentials helps to balance oily skin by eliminating this destructive cycle. (See Oily Skin)

SENSITIVE SKIN is skin that is reacting to some stimuli such as UV radiation, pollution, chemical irritants or allergens (i.e. soaps, detergents, formaldehyde-donning preservatives or even fabric softeners). Any skin type can experience this reaction. In fact, 50-60% of the population consider themselves to have sensitive skin. Several ingredients in the Bello Essentials Product Line—Beta Glucan and the green seaweed Porphyra (more commonly known as Nori)—reduce the tightening, stinging, itching and redness of sensitive skin. (See Sensitive Skin)Your skin type determines what face care regimen you should follow.

COMBINATION SKIN can function differently in various parts of the face. The nose/forehead area may have extra oil, while other parts of the face may be dryer. Following both the Dry Skin and Oily Skin Regimens may be a consideration. (See Combination Skin)

Whatever your skin type, Bello Essentials will nourish the skin, bringing it into proper balance. Watch for signs of the skin rebalancing itself with continued use of the current skin care program. Commonly one skin type will gradually change until it shifts to Normal Skin, which is the goal. As this happens, listen to the skin…daily adjusting of the skin care regimen may be needed, such as changing how often and in what order they are used.
(See Usage Guide)

If you are unsure of your skin type, follow the outline below to help you more accurately determine your skin type. Your skin type may vary on different areas of your face.

  1. Wash your face with Bello All Over Wash, then rinse and pat dry.
  2. Wait 3 hours so you can accurately read what is taking place on your skin.
  3. Look in the mirror.
    1. Are there areas on your face that are noticeably shiny?
    2. Are those areas all over, or just over the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin?
    3. If you’re not sure, take a Kleenex and dab at your face. Wait another hour and dab again.
    4. If the Kleenex has oil smears on it, then you are presently dealing with some amount of Oily Skin (or possibly a moisturizer that is too emollient for you). We will deal with that later. Please contact me if you have any questions. (See Oily Skin)
  4. Do any of the areas of your face appear dry or matte? If the answer to this question is yes, then you’re dealing with Dry Skin. (See Dry Skin)
  5. You may determine you have a combination of Oily and Dry Skin, in which circumstance we will provide you with the proper mix of products. (See Combination Skin)
  6. Carefully analyze the results of your test. Oil on each tissue indicates an Oily Skin type, while oil on only some tissues (specifically those on the T-zone, which is the center of forehead, nose, chin and center of cheeks) indicates a Combination Skin type. Flaky skin residue on all tissues - without oily residue - or a tight feeling in the skin indicates a Dry Skin type. No oil and no flaky residue on any parts of the tissue indicates a Normal Skin type, which is the ultimate goal.

Other factors to consider:

  • Pore size is another indicator of skin type; small pores generally indicate Dry Skin, while large pores indicate Oily Skin.
  • There are many factors that affect skin type, such as weather, emotions, hormones and stress, which cause the skin type to be in a constant state of fluctuation.
  • Combination Skin types typically require different Bello Essentials products for the different areas of the face which will help achieve maximum results.

As the skin begins to respond to the treatment from the Advanced Bello Skin Care Essential Products, modifications will need to be made to the skin care routine so you are continuously moving closer to Normal, Healthy Skin.
